Modular Propellers
Author:   Add date: 09/13/2007   Publishing date: 09/13/2007   Hits: 3

What they do:
Modular propellers have numerous advantages over traditional all-in-one propellers, and Michigan’s new stainless Apollo and aluminum Vortex propeller systems are two great examples . Rather than having the hub and blades as an integral package, the Apollo and Vortex™ props and XHS™ Exchangeable Hub System come together to give boaters greater versatility, and potentially cost savings, too.

How they work:
Props and hubs are available for sterndrives and outboards from major brands. Assuming you have a 200HP Mercury Verado outboard, you’d select an Flo Torq II hub which fits your propeller shaft (in this case a Model 4698544). Then you’d select a propeller that suits your boating style the best, or one that is the closest replacement for your old prop. In this case (larger outboards) you have a choice of many Black Diamond aluminum props and Silverado, Lightspeed, Torrent or Thunderbolt props.
Assuming you have a V-4 outboard like a 1999 90 HP Honda, you’d select a hub kit and one of several smaller propellers.

The Advantages:
There are several advantages to the modular approach for powerboat owners.

Reduced replacement cost
The Quicksilver combination price is very similar to what customers are used to paying for a non-modular prop. However, should you damage your prop, the replacement cost is less, since you may not have to replace the Flo Torq hub. And if you keep a spare prop on board (a commendable idea), the cost of the spare is also 25% less.

Improved propeller design
The Vortex and Apollo lines of propellers are entirely CAD-designed, with everything Michigan knows about building aluminum props. These are the cleanest, most modern designs available, assuring you of the highest performance.

Compatibility
If you own an outboard or I/O with Michigan Wheel's XHS exchangeable hub system, Quicksilver Flo Torq hubs are instantly compatible. Simply remove the Michigan propeller and slip on a Quicksilver. No hub conversion is necessary.
