Baja to lay off 42 workers

Baja Marine said in a statement that 42 workers will be cut from its Bucyrus, Ohio facilities. A statement noted that employees were informed yesterday. Baja now has a workforce of about 300 people.

The Brunswick division had earlier this month warned that cuts would be likely. "It has been some time since Baja has had to take such actions, which is a testimony to the strength of Baja's brand and product as well as its employees," said David Olson, Baja president. "Though unpleasant, these actions were nevertheless necessary to protect the health of the business and position Baja for profitable growth going forward."

The statement noted that Baja needed to cut the number of boats in its supply pipeline to match lower retail demand.
